Correctional Ministry

Sharing the hope of Jesus Christ with inmates and supporting rehabilitation through biblical teaching, prayer, and encouragement.

Correctional ministry is one of the most powerful and transformative expressions of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the ministry of bringing hope, healing, and the Good News to those who are incarcerated, reminding them that no life is beyond the reach of Gods grace. Pastor Vishwas Masih serves in correctional facilities across Ontario, sharing the love of Jesus Christ with inmates and supporting their rehabilitation through biblical teaching, prayer, and personal encouragement.

The Biblical Foundation of Prison Ministry

Prison ministry is rooted in the very words of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 25:36, Jesus said, “I was in prison and you came to visit me.” When His disciples asked when they had seen Him in prison, He replied, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” This powerful teaching makes it clear that visiting and ministering to those in prison is a direct expression of love for Christ Himself.

Hebrews 13:3 further commands believers to “remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” The Bible consistently calls Gods people to extend compassion, dignity, and hope to those who are incarcerated, recognizing that every person is created in the image of God and is the object of His redeeming love. Throughout Scripture, we see Gods heart for the prisoner, the outcast, and the broken, culminating in the Gospel message that Jesus came to set the captives free.

Pastor Vishwas’s Correctional Ministry

Pastor Vishwas Masih has been serving in correctional facilities for several years, conducting chapel services, leading Bible studies, providing one-on-one pastoral counseling, and praying with inmates who are seeking God. His ministry takes him into both remand centers, where individuals are awaiting trial or sentencing, and federal and provincial correctional facilities where inmates are serving sentences of various lengths.

The men and women Pastor Vishwas meets behind bars come from every walk of life. Some have made serious mistakes and are paying the price. Others are struggling with addiction, mental health challenges, or circumstances that led them down a destructive path. Many come from broken families and have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect. Regardless of their background or the reasons for their incarceration, every person Pastor Vishwas encounters is treated with dignity, respect, and the love of Jesus Christ.

Chapel Services and Bible Studies

One of the cornerstones of correctional ministry is the chapel service. Pastor Vishwas leads regular worship services inside prison chapels, where inmates gather to sing, pray, and hear the preaching of Gods Word. These services are often the highlight of the week for many inmates, providing a rare moment of peace, hope, and spiritual nourishment in an environment that can be harsh and dehumanizing.

Bible studies are another vital component of the ministry. In small group settings, inmates explore the Scriptures together, ask honest questions, and discover how the truths of the Bible apply to their lives. Topics often include forgiveness, repentance, identity in Christ, overcoming addiction, rebuilding relationships, and preparing for life after release. Many inmates have never opened a Bible before, and watching them encounter the love and grace of Jesus for the first time is one of the greatest privileges of this ministry.

One-on-One Pastoral Care

Beyond group settings, Pastor Vishwas provides individual pastoral care to inmates who request it. These private conversations allow inmates to share their deepest struggles, fears, and hopes in a safe and confidential environment. Pastor Vishwas listens with compassion, prays with them, and offers biblical guidance tailored to their specific situation. Many inmates describe these one-on-one sessions as life-changing, as they experience the unconditional love and acceptance of Jesus Christ, often for the first time in their lives.

Special attention is given to inmates who are nearing their release date. Reentry into society is a critical and challenging transition, and Pastor Vishwas works with these individuals to help them prepare spiritually, emotionally, and practically. Conversations cover topics such as finding a church family, maintaining sobriety, rebuilding trust with family members, finding employment, and resisting the temptation to return to old patterns of behavior.

Rehabilitation and Reintegration Support

True correctional ministry goes beyond the prison walls. Pastor Vishwas and LINC Shalom Church are committed to supporting inmates not only during their incarceration but also as they transition back into the community. This includes helping former inmates connect with local churches, find housing and employment, access counseling and support services, and build a network of healthy relationships that will help them stay on the right path.

We believe that true rehabilitation is found in a transformed heart, and that transformation is only possible through the power of Jesus Christ. When an inmate encounters the Gospel, repents of their sins, and surrenders their life to Jesus, they become a new creation. The old is gone, the new has come. We have seen men and women leave prison with a renewed sense of purpose, a deep faith in God, and a desire to live lives that honor Him and bless others.

How You Can Support Correctional Ministry

Correctional ministry is made possible through the prayers, generosity, and partnership of Gods people. There are several ways you can support this vital work. First, pray. Pray for Pastor Vishwas as he ministers in correctional facilities. Pray for the inmates, that they would encounter the love of Jesus Christ and experience true transformation. Pray for the families of those who are incarcerated, who often carry heavy burdens of their own. Pray for the prison staff, who work in a challenging environment and need Gods wisdom and strength.

Second, give. Financial support helps cover the costs of Bibles, study materials, transportation to and from facilities, and resources for inmates who are released. Your generosity makes it possible to continue and expand this ministry to more facilities and more individuals who desperately need to hear the Good News. Third, consider volunteering. There are opportunities for mature, trained believers to serve alongside Pastor Vishwas in various capacities, subject to the approval and security requirements of each facility.

Together, we can obey Christs command to visit those in prison and bring the hope of the Gospel to some of the most overlooked and forgotten members of our society. Jesus Christ changes lives, and He uses ordinary people like us to be His hands and feet in the world. Will you join us in this vital ministry?
