Sunday Worship Service: Thirsting for the Breath of God

Some Sundays are for deep teaching. Others are for simply standing in God’s presence until your heart is full. The Sunday worship service of September 27, 2026, at Life in Christ Shalom Church in Brampton, Ontario, was one of the latter: nearly an hour of heartfelt worship led by Pastor Vishwas Masih, anchored in Scripture, lifted by song, and sealed with a short but piercing word about the breath of God that breaks every chain.

A Prayer for Speedy Help: Psalm 70
The service opened with thanksgiving, and then the whole congregation stood to read God’s Word together: Psalm 70, verses 1 to 5, a prayer for God’s swift help.
“Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD. Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul. But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.” (Psalm 70:1-2, 5)
It set the tone for everything that followed: a people crying out to God, and a God who answers without delay.
An Hour of Worship
What followed was nearly fifty minutes of worship in Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi, each song a facet of who God is. The congregation sang of God’s protection, declaring that He Himself takes up their cause against every unseen adversary. They sang of the cross: “mere Yeshu ki qurbani deti hai hamein zindagani”, the sacrifice of Jesus that gives us life. They called down the fire of the Holy Spirit, “rooh ki aag ke shole”, to burn away anger, evil, and every wrongdoing. They proclaimed healing, that the blind, the lame, and the sick receive their healing at His door. And again and again they voiced the thirst of their hearts: “paak rooh hum Yeshu ke pyaase hain”, we thirst for Jesus.

The Word: His Breath Breaks Bondages
Near the end of the service, Pastor Vishwas brought a brief exhortation that tied the whole morning together. He took the congregation to two moments in Scripture when God breathed:
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7)
Centuries later, the risen Jesus did the same for His disciples: He breathed on them and said, “Receive ye the Holy Ghost” (John 20:22). The same breath that gave Adam life now gives the Church power, and where that breath falls, great works begin.
The pastor connected it to the song the church had just sung: “teri saansein khuda ki saansein hain, teri baatein masa ki baatein hain”, your breath is God’s breath, your words carry His anointing. And the promise of that anointing is freedom: “bandhanon se rihaai paayenge”, we will be released from every bondage. Whatever chain is on your life, sickness, oppression, or hindrance, the breath of God upon you breaks it.
A Prayer of Thirst
The service closed in prayer, echoing the psalmist: “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God” (Psalm 42:1). Pastor Vishwas prayed that just as David’s soul thirsted for God, every heart present would thirst for His presence and His anointing. He prayed over empty vessels, that the Holy Spirit would fill them until they overflow, and he pleaded the blood of Jesus over every family, every home, every work of their hands, and every finance, that the enemy could not touch them.
